Hello, 16 hundred years ago, a student traveled from his home in Northern Africa to Rome,

where his academic talent and intellectual curiosity brought him immediate success.

At the same time, his yearning for a higher morality, a spiritual orderliness, came into conflict

with his zeal for life and his lust for women. As he looked for guidance in the texts and

teachings of the most important philosophies and religions of his day, one belief

system began to seem truer than all the others, the one practiced by his mother, a pious and

devout Christian.

His name was Augustine, and the story he later told of his life and his spiritual journey has a strong claim as the first introspective autobiography in the history of the world.
