Summary

Just in time for some Halloween, Diane Student, co-producer and host of the "History Goes Bump" podcast, joins me to share her list of the top ten most notorious ghosts in American history. We deviate a bit from our regular author /interview format this week to delve into some of the sightings of ghostly activity attributed to many of the subjects we've covered in past episodes, including The Black Dahlia and Jesse James, and some we haven't, like the infamous H.H. Holmes. Become a Most Notorious patron: https://www.patreon.com/mostnotorious Most Notorious website: https://www.mostnotorious.com/ Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

My desire is that in doing so I'm able to present this history as accurately as possible.

1:05.0

Ghosts and the paranormal don't fit into the realm of fact for most of us, so this episode admittedly is a turn from the usual fare.

1:13.0

But everything goes out the window for Halloween, and we're all about the fun today.

1:18.0

I'm very pleased to have as my guest, Diane Student, producer and co-host of the History Goes Bump Podcast, a wonderful podcast featuring haunted history.

1:28.0

Thanks Diane for popping over to our neck of the woods.

1:32.0

Well, thanks so much Eric for having me on. I am so honored. I've been listening to your podcast pretty much from the moment you started it.

1:39.0

And I just absolutely love it. It is very unique when it comes to the true crime genre because a lot of the true crime out there is like the last 10, 20, 30 years, but you go way back and I love that stuff.

1:52.0

And I enjoy your podcast as well. Whenever I need to get my ghost fix, I listen to History Goes Bump.

1:58.0

Well, what's great and with the show that we're going to do here is the true crime and ghost stories go really well together because they both entailed death.

2:08.0

Absolutely. So we're going to be doing a top 10 list today, aren't we? What do you have in store for us?

2:17.0

Well, you would ask if I wanted to come on and do some historical ghost hails and I was kind of thinking, I wonder what we should go with and I couldn't really think of a theme.

2:27.0

But I thought, well, your show is most notorious and there's a lot of crimes and hauntings out there that go hand in hand with some of the most notorious characters in history and also some of the more notorious crimes in history.

2:43.0

And so this isn't for sure set in stone. This is the top 10. This is just 10 that I pulled out and that I've ranked them according to how I would see them from 10 being the lesser to number one being the most notorious.

3:00.0

And so I'm very excited to share a lot of these with everybody and just to give your listeners a feel for where I'm coming from.

3:10.0

Although my specialty is haunted history, I consider myself an open-minded skeptic. So just because I talk about ghost doesn't mean that I believe for sure that there is a haunting going on in a particular location.

3:25.0

And one thing I usually leave people with is that's for you to decide.

3:30.0

Dooly noted and I enjoy ghost stories just for the sake of the thrills and the chills. So.

3:40.0

What I did is I went back over your archive of shows that you've done and a lot of the most notorious characters that you've talked about are going to be on this list.

3:51.0

And one is not somebody that you've talked about, but this is a crime that happened in a location called Mertel's plantation.

4:01.0

A lot of people who are in the history have probably heard of this. It's in St. Francisville, Louisiana. And it's often referred to as paranormal investigators Disney land because there's so much activity going on here.
