I want to tell you a story about three different people who all end up with $1 million,

but they all get to that point in very different ways. The first person plays the lottery.

They have a winning lottery ticket with the right numbers, and so they get lucky, and they have

a million dollars. The second person steals $1 million, whether it's robbing a bank or doing some

other kind of digital stealing. they steal from other people,

they do something illegal, they end up with a million dollars.

The third person starts a business.

In this case, we are in the real estate investing business, and they buy a property, they

develop a property, but by doing this work and acquiring this property, maybe taking on

some leverage in debt, they end up making $1 million.

Now, what is the difference between all three of these stories? The financial result, all the same, exactly the same amount of

money. The main difference is who those people became in the process. The person who won the lottery,

really no change. They didn't have to do anything. It was just

luck, not good or bad, right? Just a lucky break. Number two, the person had to become a criminal

to get a million dollars. In the third case, they had to become a better investor. They had to

become a better business person. They had to build skills. They had to build relationships.

Probably had to change their mindset in order to overcome some challenges to get there.

So the third person, as opposed to the other two, actually had to become something where they grew in order to make a million dollars.

The second person became a criminal. The first person who won the lottery didn't change at all.

Now, I first heard this idea when I was reading a really good book called Parenting Champions by

Lanny Basham. Lanny, the author, was a Olympian, won a gold medal in the Olympics and rifle shooting.
