Episode 3936: Tynan reflects on what it truly feels like to live in near-constant motion, building “half homes” across the globe while giving up the stability of a single permanent base. He unpacks the emotional trade-offs of global connectedness, fragile dating momentum, blurred seasons, and the way perpetual travel reshapes work and identity. His perspective offers rare clarity for anyone wondering whether a nomadic life expands your world, or quietly fragments it. Read along with the original article(s) here: http://tynan.com/alwaystraveling Quotes to ponder: "While I definitely miss out on a certain depth in relationships afforded by living in constant proximity, I gain depth from sharing unique experiences around the world with them." "This lifestyle now feels totally normal to me, so I thought it might be interesting to share what it feels like to live such a life, both good and bad." "Maybe the best part of moving around constantly is that I have a “presence” in different cities around the world." Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

For the past few years, I've been in a state of near constant motion.

0:26.4

I was in Budapest for five weeks straight last month, and that was by far the longest I'd been

0:30.9

in one place in years. This lifestyle now feels totally normal to me, so I thought it might

0:36.1

be interesting to share what it feels

0:37.6

like to live such a life, both good and bad. Maybe the best part of moving around constantly

0:42.8

is that I have a presence in different cities around the world. I have friend groups in Vegas,

0:48.6

San Francisco, New York, Tokyo, and Budapest. In any of these places I can land and immediately feel at home, navigating

0:56.4

by memory, calling up friends, going to favorite restaurants, etc. Because I go to all of these places

with relative frequency, I'm generally never gone for too long, so although I don't get to see all my

1:07.5

friends every week like I'd like to, I generally see them every one to three months,

1:12.3

longer for Tokyo. If you call these five places my homes, you could say that I have five half

1:17.9

homes rather than one full home. In other words, it feels like some of these partial residences

1:23.0

is greater than one residence in terms of connection with friends, getting to know a city, etc.

1:28.4

There are very few slow or boring weeks because every week follows the template of, I'm in Budapest,

1:33.6

I need to do all of my favorite things and see all my friends. The downside to this, of course,

1:38.3

is that I don't have any one 100% home. That means that I don't get regular casual contact

1:43.6

with any of my friends and I

1:45.1

definitely feel the downsides of that. This manifests in dating as well, especially because

1:49.9

those new relationships are so fragile. Often I'll have a great first date, leave for a month or two,
