| 0:28.4 | Hello and welcome to another edition of MormonStories podcast. I'm your host John DeLin. It is 2013, |
| 0:38.2 | so happy new year to everyone who's listening, who's within the sound of our virtual voice. |
| 0:44.4 | This recording is on January 2nd, and I have with me somebody that I've known and respected |
| 0:54.8 | in many ways for over two decades. His name is Dr. or Professor Ralph Hancock. He was a professor |
| 1:08.9 | while I was at BYU, getting my degree in political science. He was on the faculty there, |
| 1:14.4 | and I was also privileged to have the experience of being a teaching assistant in the kind of famous |
| 1:22.5 | and for some infamous American heritage class that BYU has offered now for decades as well. |
| 1:28.4 | That I believe has started either by Frank Fox or someone before him, but at some point in that |
| 1:34.4 | time, Dr. Hancock was tapped to teach sections of the course and honor sections as well. So I was |
| 1:42.1 | able to actually be a teaching assistant to Dr. Hancock. And most importantly, I was able to play |
| 1:50.8 | basketball with Dr. Hancock in BYU in a mural basketball, and he was quite a basketball player, |
| 1:57.3 | which Phil Barlow discusses, I don't know if you discusses that, I'm an interview with him, but |
| 2:03.7 | but I've talked to Phil about his epic days of basketball war in Boston with Ralph Hancock |
| 2:11.3 | back at Harvard. Do you remember those days, Dr. Hancock? Oh, sure. Well, by all accounts that I've |
| 2:17.8 | used to be quite a spirited basketball player. Actually, I haven't given it up all together, |
| 2:22.8 | but I'm glad you remembered that part of our association, and I had recruited, I think three very tall |
| 2:29.1 | youth to be on this intermural team with me. And that wasn't too bad. That was some fun. And |
| 2:35.4 | I wouldn't claim to have had a complete game, but I had a step in the day, Johnny had to admit. |
| 2:42.8 | It was fun. And Phil Barlow remembers him as being a defensive specialist in you as being an |
| 2:48.2 | offensive specialist. Yeah, we got matched up a lot. My, seems like my chin and his elbow were |
| 2:54.9 | involved in a lot of our matchups, but that's just a one-sided memory of the situation. |
