Hello and welcome back to Cult Leader. I'm your Cult Leader, Spencer Henry. And what is up you guys? I missed you and before we get into anything, I want to talk about what happened with the episode on Monday because I've been getting a few questions about it. So I want to just clear it up and clear up any questions that you guys might have.

So I was in Salt Lake City. I was at the airport all my way back to LA and I think it's on Friday and there was this breaking news about a recent story about a missing girl from the University of Utah.

1:02.0

She had been murdered under strange circumstances and I started reading about all the details and I was like, okay, this is going to be my episode from Monday.

1:09.0

And I knew going into it would be different than the normal cases I covered because it was so recent.

1:14.0

Long time listeners know that I always do my best to approach each episode with complete respect for victims while still maintaining my normal demeanor. I keep things pretty light on here.

1:25.0

And I definitely did the same thing with this episode. But as soon as I uploaded it, I started getting messages within literal minutes from you guys that felt somehow connected to McKenzie's story in one way or another.

1:38.0

And I do quote leader to entertain you guys. Yes, but I also hope that it helps, you know, bring some attention to the fact that these are real things that happened.

1:50.0

And I ended up taking the episode down because I felt like it was pushing lines or controversial looking back on it. I don't know if it actually was or if it's just because it's recent.

2:00.0

So it feels weird for people, but since doing so I talked to a few of my friends about it. And I guess we all kind of came up with the same question.

2:08.0

Like what is different about this episode and the only conclusion that I've been able to reach is like timing.

2:14.0

So I want you guys to think about that for just a second. Hear me out. Every single case I've covered, there are victims.

2:21.0

And you should feel the same empathy, whether it was last week, last year or 80 years ago.

2:26.0

But I never want anyone to think that I'm being like thoughtless. So I just wanted to say something for those of you that were still wondering.

2:32.0

In essence, I still don't know if I did the right thing by taking down the episode because in all actuality, like I want to be able to cover recent stories from time to time because it's important to know like these aren't just things of the past.

2:44.0

Women are being murdered every day, especially persons of color and minorities. And it's not always talked about.

2:53.0

So I don't want anyone to feel triggered or feel like cold leader is like an unsafe space for them to just tune out. So in the future, if and when I talk about a more recent story, just know that it will be done with the same respect that I've used since day one.

3:08.0

Sound good? We good? In other news, I threw some pins back on the merch shot this week. I think they're sold out now.

3:17.0

I will I think continuously be restocking the pins because they seem to sell well and I love them. I just like having them for me even. So there you go.

3:29.0

3:39.0

Wyoming serial killers haunted Wyoming because you know, I got to know, got to know what's up where I'm going. Got to know something big happened. But during my googling session, I stumbled upon a serial killer that I completely forgot about and I was like, fuck yeah, like how have I not talked about this guy.
