Hey, team, welcome to another episode. Doing something a little different today in that I'm doing a

tribute for a long-time real estate investor, a friend, a mentor, a teacher of mine who passed

away in 2004 in August. His name is Dykes-Botterford. So I want to share just three simple lessons

that I picked up from him over the years, both for his example and from his teachings. I hope

they're helpful to you and you can apply them as a real estate investor, as an entrepreneur. And this is also a continuation of a series I'm doing of more informal episodes, shorter episodes that are not highly produced. So the first lesson I have from Dykes is definitely from his, who he was and his character

was the lost art of humility.

So humility is something that's not really like talked about. It's not bragged

about, obviously, because being humble is not bragging about yourself. And Dykes was a really

impressive person. When he graduated from college, he graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology,

Georgia Tech, where my dad graduated as well, actually. He was a scientist. He was a physics major. I think he had a

computer science master's degree, and he literally worked for NASA on rockets when he was getting

out of college. So a rocket scientist, literally, and over the years was involved in that as a

scientist, eventually got into real estate investing on the side, And for many, many decades was a successful real estate investor.

He invested in land and timber and Georgia, also had just regular rental properties, had

mobile homes, the developments, did a lot of private lending and notes.

It was a very creative investor.

But over many, many decades was successful

to the point where he was able to be financially independent and eventually leave his career

and just do real estate investing. He was also very widely known as a teacher, as a nationally
