We welcome Kyle Sheridan to this episode of Dave Tate's Table Talk Podcast!
Born and raised in Webster, NY, Kyle Sheridan has built a name for himself in the strength world through pure grit and community building. He's the co-owner of Legends 24/7 Gym in Webster and runs his own coaching business, The Crew (formerly Sheridan Strength Crew), helping lifters push their limits together.
A former sprinter and track captain at Webster Thomas High School, Kyle's love for lifting began after high school when he traded the stage as a guitarist in his rock band Falling Forward for the platform. Starting with natural bodybuilding, he quickly shifted to powerlifting in 2013, where he connected with icons like Rheta West, Bob Merkh, Paul O'Neid, and the late Paul Childress. With their guidance, he smashed his goals—deadlifting 800 and totaling 2,000 pounds at 242 in wraps by 2017.
In 2023, under Paul Childress' coaching, Kyle tackled multiply lifting, squatting 900 and totaling 2,150 at 242—just 14 weeks after stepping back into competition. Now, he's chasing a 1,000-pound squat in Paul's honor.
In 2022, when Kyle and his business partner Dave Heisinger suddenly lost their first gym space, they opened Legends in just 3.5 weeks—proving their dedication to keeping a community alive. The gym quickly outgrew its first spot, moving to a larger location in May 2024. Legends is now home to local USPA meets and a hub for lifters of all levels in the Rochester area.
When he's not coaching or growing Legends, Kyle works full time as a security supervisor at Ginna Nuclear Power Plant. His mission is to bridge the gap between raw and multiply lifting, build Rochester's strength community, and show lifters that anything is possible when you commit.

| 0:00.0 | I ran track in high school. That was 155 pounds soaking wet. I didn't even know what protein was Dave. |
| 0:04.0 | No idea. Even like hitting that 2,000 pound total. I didn't think I would ever get there. |
| 0:08.0 | I committed to it and if you really go all in and you just commit to something and you really believe in yourself, you can absolutely do it. |
| 0:15.0 | Take risks. Do cool shit. Live your life. It's worth it, man. |
| 0:30.7 | It's time to sit down, keep it real and cut the bullshit. |
| 0:32.7 | Welcome to Table Talk. |
| 0:35.4 | All right, guys, we're back with another episode of Table Talk. |
| 0:42.9 | Today, my guest is Kyle Sheraton, co-owner of Legends Jim and Webster, New York, head coach of the crew. |
| 0:48.2 | Correct me if I'm wrong, but one of the first raw 2,000-pound totals in Rochester. |
| 0:49.0 | That's correct. |
| 0:56.5 | And 800-pound headlift, ventured into multi-ply a couple years ago, 2150 at 242, competing for 15 years and coaching for close to over a decade. That is correct. I've been competing. Well, |
| 1:03.6 | since 2013 is when I did my first competition. I did bodybuilding prior to that, a couple natural |
| 1:09.6 | bodybuilding shows, and then kind of just |
| 1:11.9 | wanted to transition to powerlifting. |
| 1:13.7 | I remember before I started powerlifting, I was trying to decide whether or not I should |
| 1:18.5 | bodybuild or power lift. |
| 1:20.0 | I was interested in both, and I thought bodybuilding would be harder, and it was much harder. |
| 1:27.1 | So I said I just wanted to do one bodybuilding show and I ended up doing two. |
| 1:32.6 | And then after that, it was like, I remember being more excited for the fact that I hit my first 600 pound deadlift three weeks prior to my second bodybuilding show than I was for even stepping on stage. |
| 1:42.9 | What'd you do before all that? |
| 2:36.0 | I ran track in high school. I was skinny. I was 155 pounds soaking wet. It was actually a pretty good sprinter. I was the top 20 sprinter in Section 5. It's a New York. Yeah. For the 55, 100, 200, we broke all the school records for the relays, which was pretty awesome. One of them still stands, actually. And yeah, so after I graduated, I was just kind of bored, didn't know what to do a year later. I started doing some, like, push-ups and pull-ups in my room. I started to see a little bump in my bicep, and I thought, like, if I can make progress just by doing push-ups and pull every day. Yeah. What if I actually committed? Any strike training at all in high school? No, nothing. I didn't even know what protein was, Dave. No idea. So what were, I mean, I would. What kind of click were you in in high school? Like, who were you in high school? I played in a band in high school. So I had long hair. Rock band. Yep. I played in a band throughout high school like who were you in high school i played in a band in high school so i had long hair rock band yep i played in a band throughout high school and even a few years after um i ran track i was captain |
