We welcome Luka Hocevar to this episode of Dave Tate's Table Talk Podcast!

Born and raised in Ljubljana, Slovenia, Luka Hocevar credits basketball, fitness, and great coaches for steering him away from crime and onto a path that took him to the elite European Leagues and the NBA Summer Pro League. After hanging up his professional basketball jersey, Luka dedicated himself to transforming lives just like his coaches did for him.

With over 19 years of coaching experience, Luka has become a powerhouse in the world of physical and mental performance and body transformation. He's the founder and co-owner of Vigor Ground Gym in Ljubljana and the owner of Vigor Ground Fitness and Performance in Seattle—two facilities known as premier coaching destinations in Slovenia and the U.S. Combined, they've helped transform the lives of over 12,000 clients since 2006.

Luka has personally coached more than 4,000 athletes and clients, from top-tier pros in the NBA, NFL, UFC, MLB, and collegiate sports, to everyday people who want to look, feel, and perform at their best. He's also the mind behind the Vigor Ground Fitness and Business Summit, one of the industry's top events for fitness professionals and gym owners who want to level up.

His expertise and impact have been featured in Men's Health, T-Nation, STACK, Onnit Magazine, Entrepreneur, and on HBO Real Sports, CBS, FOX, USA Today, ABC, and KING5 New Day NW, where he's known as Seattle's go-to fitness expert.

A lot of people today are kind of like, well, I don't want to follow this person's framework.

0:03.0

And I want to do it in my own way. I'm like, that's dumb.

0:05.0

Follow the framework. You being you is going to be your own way in you. Who I want to become is an identity question. The person that you want to become does specific things. If that's your frame of how you look at the world, direction is more important than destination. If you keep asking yourself that, you're going to go in the right direction and you'll be happy about who you become.

A couple of decades. Yeah. 21 years coaching, 19 years plus having a gym. Yeah. Now you first started actually training, what, 14? Is that right? Yeah, my mom opened up a gym. I had to like some, you know, I was on a couple of shows. I had to really think about it, go back and look. look. But when I was 13 years old, my mom opened up a gym in in Slovenia.

So back there, they kept physical education building.

So like, how do I, you know, show up and be able to compete? So I started lifting weights. You know, how do I, my big thing for every kid was just like, you know, be explosive, be able to touch the rim, dunk it eventually, all that stuff. Was it basketball at that time? Because you guys are exposed to a lot of sports. Yeah, yeah, right? Yeah. We, I mean, I would say the multi-sport thing in our country is still very, very strong. Yeah.
