Summary

Nick Scaramuzzo is a seasoned Northeast hiker, having peak-bagged in Vermont, the Adirondacks, and the Catskills, just to name a few places. In our chat we discuss the Catskills 3500-footer club and how the "rules" of the hiking list vary slightly from the more popular Adirondack 46 and White Mountain 48. We also talk about his upcoming thru-hike of the John Muir Trail, and some of his preparation for that, including how he navigated the tricky permit system in order to make his hike happen.  Please consider making a donation of any size to the Trail Tales 46 Climbs team, raising money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention: https://afsp.donordrive.com/participant/1975017 Go listen to my episode of the Hiking-Thru Podcast: https://www.hiking-thru.com/episodes/kyle-ogrady-aka-nar-nar Like what you hear? He's done a bunch of hiking in the Catskills. So we talk about this Cat Skills,

1:01.3

3,500 footer club thing. We also talk a little bit about bear canisters and some of the

1:07.3

regulations in the Adirondacks. That was not planned. It just kind of came up,

1:11.3

and I thought it was pretty cool. And then we also spent some time talking about the John Muir Trail,

1:15.9

because Nick is heading out to hike that in just a couple weeks, and we talk about some of his

1:20.2

preparation for that, and specifically the permit system, the crazy, crazy permit system that

1:27.0

hikers have to navigate in order to go hike,

1:29.0

the JMT. I had a lot of fun with this one. I feel like it was pretty good because we kind of got

1:33.6

a little bit of stuff for everybody. You know, we got the East Coast hikers with the Catskills and

1:39.4

Adirondack talk. We got the West Coast hikers with the JMT talk. So I had a great time with this one.

1:49.6

you get back from your through hike, I really, really appreciate it. Don't hit that skip

1:54.3

button. I know that's what you're about to do. You heard what we're going to talk about during

1:57.9

the episode, and now you skip the rest of the introduction so you can actually get to the conversation. Like, I get that, but hold up for just a

2:04.6

second. I got to say a couple things here, and then we'll get into it, I promise. The first thing and
