Summary

The Simms Top 40 QB Countdown continues with QBs 36-33, which include a former Rookie of the Year, an embattled former Super Bowl MVP and two passers on new teams this season. First, Chris and Paul play detective on where the reports of the Jets drama are really coming from (4:08). Then back to the QB countdown talk...could Robert Griffin III give the Ravens a better chance to win this season than Lamar Jackson (13:00)? Ryan Fitzpatrick looked an All-Pro for the Bucs last September, but does he have a chance of starting in Miami this season (22:39)? The guys express some Daniel Jones fatigue and debate Eli Manning's Hall of Fame candidacy (29:30). What would Marino or Elway's stats look like if they played in today's game? (37:40) Finally, they rank the AFC South, a loaded division any way you slice it (50:20).

I'm doing a podcast through NBC now. I want to put my best foot forward. Makes you over prepare. It makes you care of. Right. I want to impress people like you for some reason and all the other people I work with. You won't pass that now. Now I don't give a dad of that. The hell of these people now. They like me and they're stuck with me. Yo, yo, what up? It's Thursday. It's May 30th. May 30th. How dare I don't know that? It's my mom's birthday. It's dirty Diana's. I think you went with 35th. I was about to say 31st, and I was like, whoa, I better watch it there. But I hope everybody's doing good out there. My man Paul Burmister is here today.

We're going to get into more of the top 40 quarterbacks in football.

0:44.1

I know I've unveiled four of them already with number 40 being Tyrod Taylor, 39, Colt McCoy, 38, Dwayne Haskins, 37, Drew Locke.

0:53.4

We'll get into the next four that we're going to unveil here as we go forward.

I am going to self-scout thyself at some point on this list, too. Because as I talk about it more, I also find little nuggets and facts to where, like I told you off air, 30 to 42 is the hardest part of this ranking to me. The top 10, top 20 quarterbacks, I talk about them so much, I study them so much, I know so much about them. I feel comfortable with them. These guys, it's backups. It's nitpicky. It's, oh, this guy hasn't played in a while, all that. So that's where we'll go into here in a minute. I know you're going to challenge me in a few things and we'll have some fun. We love quarterbacks. We love a list. And I've been thinking about this as I watched your last podcast and saw those four revealed. And just kind of wondering as I was looking forward to today and the next four we're going to be, about six weeks ago, we were doing this with the NFL draft. You were ranking quarterbacks. I know you put a lot of time into that. And that's got to be really difficult, too, especially when you get past one, two, and three. How does this process compare ranking all the top 40 NFL quarterbacks with ranking the

2:03.5

rookies to be for QBs in the draft?

2:05.5

Yeah, this is, I think this is actually harder.

2:08.0

I think there's more to take into account here, you know, just with, and again, I felt

2:12.9

very comfortable with like the top 20.

2:15.0

I was like, oh, I can do that in my head and whatever and figure that out. But, you know, there's just so many different circumstances on the NFL football team. And it's about what you are right now in 2019. That's the bottom line. I think that's where people get confused of this. This is not an all-time ranking. You know, this is nothing like This is not how good you were two years ago. That doesn't mean shit. It's right now.

2:36.7

It's right now.

2:52.1

And, you know, some is nothing like this. This is not how good you were two years ago. That doesn't mean shit. It's right now. It's right now. And, you know, some of it is a little projection-based, too. Hey, the team they're going to be on. You know, me thinking they're growing more, you know, as a player between year one or year two. And obviously, projection-based. He had two rookies. Exactly. Or 37 through 40. And I get flack.

2:53.1

How can you tell how good they are ranking them when they haven't played a snap in the NFL? I don't know, you know, but I knew I knew about Patrick Mahomes because I had him in my top 30 quarterbacks last year. Right. You know, there was enough that I saw in preseason football and coming out in the draft that I said,

3:08.1

he can do things that other quarterbacks in the league can't do right now, plain and simple. That's all there is to it. You know, hey, you know, Baker Mayfield, again, just we all knew Baker Mayfield was better than Tyrod Taylor. Did we really have to see it, you know, to say it and make it happen? Yeah. I mean, it helps to see it.

3:25.3

Helped a lot. But you're right, but we knew about the second play he went in there. We said, whoa, this offense looked better. Happened right away. A lot better, right. So, yeah, I mean, it's not a, it's not a exact science here. Yeah, this is me studying guys, not trying to get too fascinated with the team always.

3:41.2

You know, sometimes guys are

3:43.0

better than the other guy.

3:44.0

Doesn't mean just their team is better always, too. So I try to take all that into account, and yeah, we'll have fun with that. We're going to hit the next four quarterbacks going forward here. One piece of news I found interesting just over the last few days. Because there hasn't been much.

3:58.5

There hasn't been much.
