Summary

Ted and his family just returned from a three-night Bahamas cruise aboard Disney Dream. This is their first Disney cruise, cruising strictly with Carnival previously. On this episode, Ted gives us a bow to stern run down of Disney Cruise Line and what the Disney experience is like, not only for him but his son. This is an excellent Disney Cruise Line review.

We tackle your questions on taking cruise shore excursions in the Med. We have listener questions about Barcelona, Rome and St. Petersburg, Russia.

Ted and his family just returned from a four-night Disney sailing aboard Disney Dream, and Ted joins us this evening. How you doing, Ted? Hi, Doug. Doing great. Happy to be back with you. Yeah, man, thanks for being on the show again. Before we step foot on the Disney Dream, let's take a step back. Let me ask you, what made you want to take a Disney Cruise and pick Disney Dream? Well, my family loves a cruise. This is our 12th cruise for my wife and I. All the previous ones have been with Carnival, so we were looking for something different. We have a seven-year-old boy, and he's actually done six previous cruises, too. And, you know, as a family, we always kind of got to try to figure out a way to mix in Mickey and Disney. So to us, the cruising just sounded more, is just more up our alley than going hanging out at the park on the blacktop in 90-degree weather for the day. Yeah, yeah. The cruise was no brain for us.

1:28.1

Nice, very nice.

1:29.3

So you live up in Indy, so you had to get down to the Orlando area. So talk to us about the logistics getting down here. Sure, we do. We take me, which is a great tip. We flew in a day early. We don't like to rush. We've done that before. in our early days of cruising and made that mistake.

1:25.5

And it's just a long day on that first day

1:27.1

when you have to fly in and transfer over

1:29.2

to the port.

1:47.6

So we flew in the nice day before, took our time, stayed at the hotel near the airport.

1:53.0

And this time we usually take our own transportation to the port since it's 45 minutes an hour away.

1:58.0

But this time we just decided to go all Disney.

2:00.0

So we stayed at night at hotel by the airport, went back to the airport in the morning,

2:05.4

and then just jumped on the Disney transfers to the port.

2:08.1

Do you know offhand with that cost to Disney transfer from the airport to the cruise port?

2:12.4

I believe round trip.

2:13.6

It's $70 per person, so it is a little bit higher than normally because I know I can normally get transportation, you know, for my family, probably about 100 and a half. But this time with Disney, I mean, once you drop your luggage off with them, you know, it doesn't show up again until to the porch. So, you know, it's all good. So I just want to go ahead and go Disney this time. Yeah, yeah, totally worth it. You've got to embrace the Disney experience there.

2:35.9

So let's talk about getting...

2:36.9

Yeah, and they've got the real nice shuttles.

2:32.0

Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly. Let's talk about getting to the cruise pier. How was embarkation for you once you got there? The embarkation was breathe. I mean, I was a little afraid. I told the wife and the son, I said, pack your patience.

2:34.8

It's going to be, this is a lot bigger ship than we're normally used to going,

2:36.1

so there's going to be a lot more people.
