Well, it was such an astonishing year.

And people have been saying to me, all the same,

like, you know, how much work did you have to do when you say

but my work consisted of the spring sitting down and reading incredible journalism

that's come in the past 12 months and this it's been an exceptional year. I know people say that every

but really you look at the short list this year. It really has been

exceptional. So it was far from a short, the only difficulty was really

whittling trying to whittle down to you know to a long list and then to a short list and then obviously

the judges have incredible conversations and arguments and discussions about who could possibly

we could possibly pick to be a winner out of this?

It is amazing how just how much these stories changed things.

That seems to be a common theme of this year's shortlist. You know, they played into huge national conversations

and in many cases they sparked them.
