This is John Batchel, a conversation with colleague Bill Raja of the Foundation for Defense of Democracy,

who reveals to me with his colleague, Bridget Toomey, of FD, that the Houthis, the successful

rocketeers of Yemen, bombarding the Red Sea, closing down the Suez Canal effectively to world traffic,

and also now and again getting through the defenses of the Israeli forces.

The Houthis are in league in concert, in cooperation with, trading with,

using al-Qaeda networks to smuggle their supplies into the firing range and to sustain them.

Bill and I smiled at this. It's like Mothra and Godzilla working together. In any event, here's Bill to

explain supply chain in the Yemeni desert area between al-Qaeda and the Arabian Peninsula,

a band of mass murderers and killers and schemers, with the Houthis, who have a slightly more

organized sense of killing people. They use sophisticated modern weapons.

There's designations that, U.S. designations that detail these smuggling networks

and the Houthis have provided weapons to al-Qaeda's branch in Somalia.

So as well as the Islamic State, this is part of Iran's strategy of destabilizing the region,

keeping the U.S. engaged in fighting

and hoping to force the U.S. to withdraw from the region

as it did in Afghanistan.
