It's Casual Friday! Sam speaks with Ryan Grim, D.C. Bureau Chief at The Intercept and co-host of Counter Points, to round up the week in news. Then, he's joined by Francesca Fiorentini, host of the Bitchuation Room! First, Sam runs through updates on yesterday’s State of the Union, Biden-Trump polling, US aid to Gaza, US arms to Israel, ceasefire talks, NATO, US jobs numbers, Iowan fascism, FEC policy, and Donald Trump’s defamation debt, also parsing through the impact of yesterday’s ceasefire protest outside of the SOTU, and Biden’s supposed hot mic moment committing to his insistence that he’ll definitely convince Netanyahu to let in aid sometime soon. Ryan Grim then joins, running through some updates on recent challenges to the Intercept and the mass layoff that hit the company’s unionized staff, before stepping back to assess the absurdity of Biden’s hot mic comments to Senator Bennett and the doubtfulness around Biden doing something new to stop this conflict. Expanding on this, Grim and Sam walk through Biden’s role in pushing unconditional US support for the genocide in Gaza, the oddity of the leaks coming out of VP Harris’ office, and Biden’s history of being a centrist cipher on every issue OTHER than militant Zionism and US imperialism. Next, they parse through Biden’s SOTU statements on immigration, completely turning the notion that “no human is illegal” and continuing to commit to the GOP’s framing on the border, before wrapping up by assessing Biden’s goal for the speech, and how well he accomplished it. Francesca Fiorini and Sam then address the question of who Biden’s SOTU speech was for, explore the vague notions of liberal politics that he promoted with little to no agenda to back it up, and gauge the future of democratic leadership after this election cycle. After briefly touching on Biden’s comments on the whole “gerontocracy” problem, Francesca and Sam wrap up the free half by parsing through GOP Senator Katie Britt’s response to Biden’s State of the Union, and the – ah – pointed reviews from the GOP establishment.

And in the Fun Half: Sam watches Lara Trump extoll the public’s general embarrassment around Trump as proof of his strong base, Candace Owens highlights the problem of those damn cultish Jews, and Sean Hannity accidentally paints Joe Biden as “having energy,” plus, your IMs!
