Welcome to the Scuff Podcast where we talk about US soccer. We lost 2-1 to 1 to England at Wembley on Friday and we're here to recap it

before we get into this game which was a great spectacle and an extremely useful

test for the US women's national team not to mention a lot of fun to watch we

should acknowledge the Sally Yates investigation you've probably read it or parts of it or the landmark

story by Meg Linahan for the athletic a year ago that helped prompt the

investigation of the NWSL that and I quote, revealed a league in which abuse and misconduct,

verbal and emotional abuse and sexual misconduct,

had become systemic spanning multiple teams, coaches, and victims, end quote.

The stories that these women have had to tell are blood boiling and did in fact hang over this game.

All the players wore teal armbands in solidarity.

Here in the US, everyone who allowed this type of thing to occur,

as Becky Sourbren put it, has failed in their stewardship. I thought it was striking that one of the

stories came from the president of US soccer herself, Cindy Parlo Cone. Some moves are being made,

for instance, the executive who asked Cone,

then the Portland-Thorns head coach, what was on her bucket list besides sleeping with him,

has been fired, but a full accounting must be done. I think we all know that

Which was notable. Yeah, it was notable we a while. I think for a test we had we had Canada in the

Concord W championship and again I always want to caveat this set. We want to respect every opponent we play.
