The person I interview today is extremely special to me.

I've known her family for over 30 years.

I've watched this mother, both home educate her kids and supervise some of them in

public school in high school. I've watched her grandparent, her two grandchildren.

But most importantly, it was the five years that we spent together homeschooling in California in our tiny little condominiums with barely any money or resources that did more to shape

my imagination around homeschooling than any reading I did, than any support group I've ever

been a part of. Doty Christensen is a magic maker.

There is no house I would rather visit in the entire country.

Whenever you walk through her door you feel special and it's not Martha

Stewart kind of special. It's more like preschool teacher kind of special. It's

cookies and milk and comfortable blankets and good lighting.
