So last time, we concluded our examination into the Dutch aspect of the war. We discerned that the war for the reclamation of the Netherlands had cost Spain

dearly, and in the end would effectively cripple her ability to wage war elsewhere. By late

1629, the Dutch Republic had established itself firmly with some impressive

victories on the field, and Frederick Henry's triumphs appeared to seal the fate of the Spanish

Netherlands for good. As we also learned, though, religion had an important role to play in what

happened next, while they would not fight fight anymore for king or for country,

and while the occasional cries in favour of the Prince of Orange could be heard in the streets of
