It's been a while since we talked about China, so time to get up to date there.

Back in episode 234, I described the Nanjing decade, the period from 1928 to 1937, a time of relative peace and prosperity

in China, albeit one interrupted halfway through, by the Japanese occupation of Manchuria

and the creation of a protectorate we in the West usually call Manchu Kuo.

I told you about those events in episodes 263 and 265.

After the creation of Manchukuo, China was divided once more, dashing the hopes of those Chinese

who wanted a China strong and united.

The northeast of the country was now a Japanese protectorate,

which built itself as five races under one union.

which borrowed the old five-striped flag that the Republic of China had used until 1928,
