All right, so we have a couple questions here. First, to kick off tonight's discussion.

And since tonight is me still on the road, I'm going to do the best I can to just talk about theology and current events.

In terms of what I've been reading and studying today.

So first off, we're going to kick it off with a few questions from somebody in the Discord.

And his name is Demianos.

And he says, what does it mean for God to transcend infinity?

And although this might sound a little counterintuitive first, the answer from the orthodox perspective is that

the way in which God transcends any of his attributes or actions or names

is via the essence.

So anything that we predicate of God is still known or perceived

or comes down to us in an energetic way.

So even when we say God is infinite, that's still one of his energies, right, to possess

infinity.

And he transcends infinity infinitely, both Basil and Maximus say.

This is why Basil and Maximus also say that god's energies are

infinite but he he infinitely transcends even his infinite energies and that's just to guard uh against

the direct perception or attribution of positive qualification or quality to the divine essence.

This is what apophatic theology is.

For us, the Via Negativa or apathetic theology is predicated on

there being a distinction between the essence and the energy.

Because if there is no distinction between essence and energy,

and we believe in apathetic theology,
