Vice President Kamala Harris has officially conceded the 2024 election race.

Harris's senior aide said she called President-elect Donald Trump to congratulate him

and is expected to give a concession speech later today.

Her campaign aides and allies say they're in a state of shock and disbelief.

Harris focused heavily on abortion and the threat to democracy, but voters consistently and

repeatedly said the number one issue this election was the economy.

Here's senior political analyst Gloria Borgier.

I think a pivotal moment was on the

view when she couldn't distance herself from Biden and couldn't think of anything that she would

have done differently. I mean, this is a moment in this country that one source described to me

this morning as a rolling realignment, where you have these disaffected voters who are upset

because they're not doing as well as they were doing four years ago. And it is not based on race.

It is based on class because Donald Trump has brought in all these new Hispanic voters and

black voters, for example. and the Democrats are left being the

party of the elite, which they feel has nothing to do with them.

Some Democrats, including Harris campaign officials, are blaming President Joe Biden for the

election loss. Some say he should have kept his 2020 campaign pledge to be a, quote, transition

and quote, bridge and, quote,

bridge president instead of seeking a second term.

Biden was ultimately forced out of the race just several months out from Election Day,

giving Harris no choice but to run a truncated race.
