House Speaker Mike Johnson says he's going to request that the House Ethics Committee

not release its report on allegations related to Matt Gates.

The Florida Republican resigned from Congress Wednesday, when President-elect Donald Trump

announced he intends to nominate him for Attorney General.

The years-long ethics investigation into Gates involved allegations of sexual misconduct

and illicit drug use, among other serious claims.

But with Gates' resignation, the investigation came to an end, as the panel only has jurisdiction

over a member when they are serving in Congress.

Gates has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.

According to two sources familiar, Republicans on the ethics panel canceled today's meeting

with Democrats that was expected to address the report.

In case you missed it this week, Donald Trump picked Pete Heggseth for Secretary of Defense.

Heggseth, who has a long record of military service, recently said women should not be in combat

roles in the military.

CNN's Taylor Gagano spoke to some women veterans about how they feel about those comments.

Hey, Afoma. Yeah, so overall, the women I spoke with were really disappointed in Hexeth's comments that women shouldn't be in combat roles. You know, women weren't even allowed to serve in ground

combat units until 2013. But one woman I spoke with, Alisa Smithers, pointed out that she did

serve in an unofficial

combat role in Iraq in 2005.

And so she worries that if Hegsef acts on his comments, women will still do these combat

roles, they'll just do them with less recognition and less benefits, like what she experienced.
