Congress certified President-elect Donald Trump's election win today on the fourth anniversary

of the deadly riot at the Capitol by his supporters.

There's a phrase we heard over and over again, regular, inform and authentic, as each

state was called. And it just struck me because

today was normal. It was the opposite of four years ago. The ceremonial process that clears

the way for Trump swearing in as the 47th president in two weeks also highlights an extraordinary

moment in political history,

in a nation where Trump is more powerful and popular than he's ever been. Meanwhile, Trump's

allies in the GOP are preparing to enact his agenda. In the first 100 days of his second term,

they hope to push through sweeping tax cuts and border security measures and raise the debt

limit,

among other things. Pope Francis has appointed a critic of Donald Trump's first administration

to be the next Archbishop of Washington, D.C. It's Cardinal Robert McElroy, a strong supporter of

Francis's priorities on refugees, the environment, and welcoming LGBTQ Catholics.
