This week on the show, we continue with part eight of our series covering Stephen King's The Shining.

We're talking about chapters 46 through 51. Jack, having chosen his side, begins his mission to

kill his family as Dick continues his long and dangerous journey back to the overlook.

Matt, what did you think of this week's reading?

Quite an escalation, wouldn't you say?

Quite an escalation.

I mean, this is the part that, I mean, I knew it was coming.

And yet it manages to be quite upsetting.

Yeah.

Which, I don't know why I'm surprised exactly.

But, yeah, again, I guess I could just repeat myself, despite the fact that I've seen two separate out of patients of this film, of this story, rather, the visceral violence and the unpleasantness and the tragedy and sadness of it really hit me a lot harder reading it.

And I think that's because we're more kind of invested directly in the characters in this story.

I think you're right.

I mean, I think Jack specifically, you know, we've been pretty hard on him over the course of these eight episodes. But, you know, we still care deeply about him. And like, I think that the tragedy of the story is, of course, like you want him to succeed and do well, despite the fact that we all know that it's not going to happen that way.
