Hello, you are listening to Sigma Nutrition Radio with me, Danny Lennon. We're at episode

0:05.7

295 of the podcast today. And as always, we are here to talk about the science of nutrition

0:12.9

and health. On today's podcast, I'm going to be talking with Dr. Benhouse, who is a PhD in

0:20.4

nutrition from the University of Texas at Austin,

0:23.5

and he's been working as both a nutritionist and strengthening coach for many years now,

0:29.8

and currently is based in Costa Rica, where he owns functional medicine, Costa Rica, where he delivers courses, mentorships,

0:40.8

retreats, and a whole host of other things that will probably bring up throughout today's

0:44.9

nutrition training, but also they tend to be quite

philosophical as well, which I think jives with me pretty well. And so for a long time, I've

1:23.3

where he's trying to examine elite level lifters, or should we say people that are close to their

1:30.2

genetic potential for muscle mass, and seeing what are the implications of or what type of surplus

1:37.8

is going to be required for maximum amount of hypertrophy or what are the differences between variations

1:46.5

in how much of a caloric surplus is used during a gaining phase specifically in people that

1:52.4

are very close to their genetic potential. And this is a very intriguing question because it's

1:57.3

very hard to find the answers to this because most of the time we're kind of

2:01.6

extrapolating from the typical subject pools that are used in a lot of sports science.

2:06.6

And this is an issue that we'll get into today.

2:08.6

But I hope you find this interesting and if this is a concept you've ever thought about,
