0:26.8	we're continuing our 2024 Meet the Independent Candidates series with our first
0:33.2	independent veteran candidate. More on that in a second. Because as we begin May, there is
0:40.1	important news to cover first. Chaos is happening on campuses all across America and now is
0:48.5	absolutely a time to stay vigilant. Yesterday, before police showed up here at Columbia, students received a shelter in place
0:57.3	warning. Hours later, we saw dozens upon dozens of protesters in zip ties taken into
1:03.3	city and police buses as their peers, protesters, and even faculty members cheered them on
1:08.8	from the outside.
1:13.1	Dozens of NYPD officers in Riot Gear entered Columbia University around 9 p.m.
1:18.8	Some through locked gates, others seen here coming through a second floor window of the building
1:23.7	occupied by demonstrators Tuesday night.
1:26.8	The officers entered Hamilton Hall at the request
1:29.2	of the university. While inside, police cleared barricades, conducted multiple arrests, eventually
1:34.7	clearing the building. Police also began clearing the tent encampment that had been the symbol
1:39.6	of the protest on campus for nearly two weeks. Then NYPD moved further north in Harlem towards a city college campus.
1:48.8	We were there when dozens of officers breached a gate to clear the encampment and began
1:53.1	arresting protesters.
1:59.2	That's the sound of a divided country, experiencing another tear in the fabric of its body politic.
2:08.9	Another flesh wound, another deep cut on top of other deep cuts being followed daily by more and more deep cuts.
2:19.6	That's the sound of the latest radioactive and divisive issue in our news and current events
