Summary

Megan ran 8:21:51 to win the Run Rabbit Run 50 Mile, in one of the fastest times ever! This episode is a celebration of a wild and unexpected journey.

She had only done one 50-mile race before, back in 2017. Then there was a heart issue, a hamstring surgery, pregnancy with Leo and Ollie, and so much more that the world will never see. She kept showing up though, even when her workout was walking 1 mph uphill.

On Saturday, she showed up again, stepping into the unknown of a high-altitude mountain ultra with a “growth and grace” mindset! We break down the whole day and why she first considered this race back in January, 1 week after giving birth to Ollie. Topics include: questions on the build-up, lower-mileage training, tapering, high-carb nutrition, and mindset, plus deep thoughts on the athletic journey, parenting, and life.

Near the end of the episode, we have a tone shift and talk about the sad news from last week that Joyline Chepngeno tested positive before her history-making win at OCC. As always, we urge compassion for the individual while being skeptical of the system, and we try to end on a hopeful note for the future.

Out on the course, Megan got so many “woohoo” and “huzzah” cheers. We love you all so much. Podcast listeners get 5 stars.

Stick around to the end of the episode to hear what gets the rare 13/10 rating. HUZZAH!

Woohoo. Welcome to the Some Work All Play podcast. We are so happy to with you today. Happy Tuesday. It's Tuesday. And I'm rolling in with 10 hours asleep on this Tuesday. 10. So good. 10 hours of sleep in one day. It feels like a lot. Not over three days. Not over three days, which is what just happened. We are rallying and building back. Actually, it was nine hours and 52 minutes, but we're rounding up. Oh, last night. Yeah. You absolutely crushed it. And you earned that sleep times a million.

0:24.6

One, because you didn't sleep at all on the night before your race. But most of all, because of the race

0:29.6

itself, everyone give a big round of applause to Megan, who's back, who did a 50-mileer at the

0:35.1

Run Rabbit Run race, ran a historically legendary time to win

0:39.3

by 25 minutes and just so proud of you. It's one of the most amazing things I've ever seen.

0:44.4

Oh, thank you. I'm over here grinning. Like that goosebumps. It feels so good. Still very sore.

0:49.3

And I think we're still like processing a lot of it. It's funny when you do one of these races and

0:53.5

you finish. And then for us like an hour later, Leo, our little guy is like, Mama, play cars over and over and over again. And so I still feel like we're processing the race. And I'm like excited to do that today on here. I cannot wait. This is probably going to be awkward for you, Megan, but it is so important because the journey you've been through over the course of the podcast, the last five years, everyone who's been there and seen it, like they must be so inspired like I am, you know, seeing it behind the scenes. And I just can't wait to break it down because what you did out there was not just a good race or even a sign that, you know, you've worked hard in the comeback. What you did out there is a sign that you're on track to be one of the very best in the world at alter running. And how freaking wild is that? Well, it's funny. My brain is like, I don't know about that. You're going to probably want to cut yourself down a lot. Nope, not happening. I'm like, I don't know. We'll do a count on it. This is number one. Yeah. Yeah. But it was, I mean, it was one of

1:45.0

those days, like, you know, I've actually been thinking about this race for a long time. Like, honestly, I thought about doing this race one week postpartum. That was when I was like, oh, maybe I'll do like run rabbit 50. And it felt. January of this year. January of this year. And I felt so much more like a lottery ticket than an actual plan.

1:59.7

I was just like, maybe I'll do this thing at the end of the summer.

2:02.4

And that's kind of how it felt until like up until the moment.

2:04.7

Yeah.

2:04.8

And. and I felt so much more like a lottery ticket than an actual plan. I was just like, man, maybe I'll do this thing at the end of the summer. And that's kind of how it felt until like up until the moment. Yeah. And now having done it, I'm like, what just happened? So you're saying lottery tickets aren't financial plans? Perhaps I should change some of my approach. Okay, okay. Let's actually just get right into the episode because I want to start there with when you were

2:18.0

considering this race.

2:19.0

A quick roadmap.

2:19.9

We're going to talk about Megan's race, including questions on the buildup, training, tapering,

2:24.2

nutrition, and mindset.

2:25.4

So many great questions came in already.

2:27.3

We're going to break some of those down.

2:28.5

Plus deep thoughts on the athletic journey, parenting, and life.

2:32.3

Then we possibly discuss a running economy durability study,

2:35.4

the terribly sad doping news from Mountain Running, and then lots of rapid fire questions to
