Ashley is not only the host of The Deeper Call podcast, where she offers restorative conversations and somatic practices to foster connection and regeneration, but she's also the author of the newly released book, Permission to Rest.

And let me tell you – this book is a game-changer for parents and young people alike, offering 35 transformative practices to find rest and reconnect with themselves.

With over a decade of experience in the realms of embodiment, transformation, and renewal, Ashley is here to share her wisdom and insights for how to embrace real rest, the importance of somatic practices, balancing parenthood and self-care, and creating a nurturing environment for emotional growth.

Ashley, welcome back to the show. It's been two and a half years since you were last on you were on episode 94 where we dove in to your first book about breathwork and your second book, which is called Permission to Rest, revolutionary practices for healing, empowerment, and collective care is out now.

1:26.1

And I just got full body chills. I'm so excited to see you and to love on you and to have this conversation with you. I always felt like when we would get together and you were the first person to introduce me to the deepest type of breathwork and to do breathwork sessions with me, but I always felt like I kind of went into this little vortex of a DMC or a deep meaningful conversation. No one was there. It didn't matter which little cafe or coffee shop we were at. It was just us and we just went there.

1:56.1

Like how are we feeling about our relationships with ourselves with our partner with what was this pregnancy like we were pregnant together at the same time, Bash and Solomon, what was it like to be a mom like what was the sleep deprivation like the allergies and Exima like you name it like we just we didn't it wasn't like, hey, how are you? It was like, oh my god, I'm so glad you're here. And I want people to know your work and what you do and just what an amazing woman you are. So thank you for being here for sharing your books for being

2:38.8

Thank you Kelly. I'm sitting here just like basking in just your generosity and love and kindness and just really getting to spend this time together with you right now. I'm so happy to be here. Thank you for having me.

Let's talk about this book. I think we'll get into your life a little bit and you and your husband Nick and your, you know, you have a biological baby is you have foster babies adopted babies like my version of 2023 mother Teresa like you're just taken in everybody you're here to make change and you do it with your books too.

3:13.0

And so you wrote this new book permission to rest and even before the podcast I'm like I don't know how to rest.

3:18.8

As it's learned behavior like my mom was like thinning like a top when I was growing up in our house and I feel the need to do the same thing and I said before it started like I'm playing trucks with Toshin and I really want to dedicate time to like really connecting with him.

3:36.2

I don't want him to feel lost in the middle and that is really really something I'm very focused on maybe overly focused. I don't know. But I'll be playing trucks and I'm not playing trucks.

3:47.8

Like can we talk about what inspired you to write this book and like permission to rest and it's like almost like permission to be present and we all need that I need it especially like this is a therapy session.

3:59.5

I've already been talking so much you need to be talking. What inspired you to write this book. I know it took three years of your life. What inspired you to write it and what does it mean to rest.

4:10.4

I just appreciate everything you shared so much and it's I so relate on so many levels and I wrote this book and similarly to why I wrote how to breathe I wrote this book because I needed it and I've been looking for books about rest and I know I need rest but I'm like how do I do it who's doing it who can I look toward who's out there kind of doing this work and the books I found which is not super informative and didn't really feel helpful for me.

4:32.2

So I was like okay, there's a space here and someone needs to write this book. I guess it should be me because I called to do it and I've been practicing resting for so many years off and on in so many different ways and what was really interesting for me
