Now in the last episode, we were looking at how the seven-year war ended both New France and pretty much any hope that the French Empire in the Americas would ever become a reality.

But it did also bring its own problems.

And that is the American Revolution.

And we are once again delighted to be joined by Maya Jassanoff, author of

Liberty's exile, the loss of America and the remaking of the British Empire, which is partly about

this transformation. So, I mean, let's first of all look at this aftermath of the seven-year war.

I mean, we touched on it before, but the main thing is you have to pay for the bullets and shots

that you fired.

And to do that, you need to raise taxes.

But you know what?

The colonists don't like taxes very much because they don't see why they have to pay for

an exchequer far, far away when they're the ones fighting the hardships in the land

of expedition and

pushing back boundaries that, you know, those in London will never understand. Or even more to the

point when they don't get to have a say in the selection of their representatives. But for the purposes

of thinking about Canadian history, we might want to highlight a couple of other consequences
