Summary

On this episode, Jason Leppert, editor of Popular Cruising joins us to talk about his latest experience aboard Norwegian Cruise Line's Pride of America, a cruise ship based year-round in the Hawaiian islands. Jason gives us a full review of the itinerary, the ship, dining venues and entertainment aboard the ship.

Finally, a cruise that over-nights in different ports!

MSC Cruises has launched Inclusive Experiences, a new pricing structure in which guests choose an “experience” based on their own personal preferences and amenities desired while cruising. Valued at up to $700+ per person, guests have the option of selecting from four different experience categories — Bella, Fantastica, Aurea, and MSC Yacht Club — ranging from a la carte to all-inclusive amenities. As a positioned industry expert, Theresa Masek, editor-in-chief of Vacation Agent Magazine, chats with us about the packages and gives her thoughts.

How you doing, my friend? Doing fantastic. How are you? Good, man. So the last couple times we've talked to

0:51.5

you, it's been about Alaska, but we're going to move a little more west this time and head out to Hawaii and talk about your seven-night cruise on Norwegian cruise lines, Pride of America. Did I get that correct?

1:03.1

That's right. Yeah, we're going from state 49 to 50. So there we go. So before we board the actual ship itself, Jason, what were your pre-crued thoughts for Norwegian cruise lines in Hawaii? You know, we actually had the pleasure of touring the Pride of America for the day a couple months before and really just fell in love with the ship. I thought it was an interesting design. I wanted to check it out for full sailing and that we did. Now, Disney has a new resort over there, right? They do. They have the Alani at the Oahu Honolulu Resort.

1:29.6

Yep.

1:28.1

Gosh, how you ever stayed there? I did, actually. I was lucky to check that out for two nights ahead of time, and it was awesome. So let's talk about the logistics getting over to Hawaii, Jason. When do you recommend getting there before your cruise? You can always get there early. I think it's always good to get there any place you go to early because you never know with flights these days.

2:18.2

I mean, obviously the trouble in Chicago now. So just to have that option to be able to get there early and not have your bags to be behind you is always a good thing if you're getting on a cruise. Where did you embark from? We left from Honolulu. So for us, leaving from San Diego, we just flew right across on a nonstop flight, so it was perfect. Is it a pretty popular gateway? It is actually, yeah. So about five hours and we were there. Nice, very good. So let's talk, very good. So you did your pre-cruz stay in Hawaii at Honolulu, and you make your way to the cruise terminal to board a pride of America. So what was the embarkation like?

2:19.3

It was really easy.

2:24.3

It's like any other cruise, but actually the thing is nice about going to Hawaii is you don't need to passport.

2:28.4

So if you're a U.S. citizen, you're not going to be going to any foreign ports on this cruise.
