Summary

When it comes to bees, everyone's familiar with the iconic honeybee, but what many don't realize is that honeybees are not native to North America. The 4,000 or so native bee species in the United States behave much differently than honeybee colonies and are generally not well understood. To educate us on the diversity of native bees, pollinator conservationist and author Heather Holm joins me on the podcast this week.

Well, just the other day, in fact, this past Sunday, I had just returned from a weekend

0:41.8

out of town, and I was in my garden checking on things as I always do when I had been away.

But in my garden, I have three small American chestnut trees.

0:50.9

They're in containers that I've been raising for a couple of years.

So while I was there, quietly sitting in awe and admiring the surgical extractions of

1:16.0

the leaf tissue by this amazing bee, she pops in for a cameo appearance.

1:21.2

And thankfully I had my phone, and I was able to document this very brief visit before
