Summary

Today I'm chatting with Kayla Kotecki, a rebel Holistic Nutritionist who’s sick of women and men suffering from restrictive diets and physical/mental decline, caused by shame around unrealistic and unsustainable diet culture and beauty standard demands. Kayla is the author of Damn the Diets and founder of damnthediets.com. After almost a decade suffering as a [miserable] bikini competitor, fitness model, yo-yo dieter, bulimic, orthorexic, and extreme exercise addict, in which she ruined her physical and mental health, she managed to get her life back, and now she is dedicated to helping others get their lives back as well.

In this episode, Kayla shares her history with undereating and overtraining and how she went "all in" to restore her mental and physical health. We discuss how food volume doesn't tell you if you're eating enough, how trauma can affect your relationship with food, and the dark side of bikini competitions. Kayla shares what it was like for her to go all in, eating 10,000 calories a day, why she had to quit exercise, how food restriction can be connected to digestive issues, the rebound effect of weight gain, what normal eating really is, and much more.

For more from Kayla, head to damnthediets.com, check out her YouTube channel, and read her book, Damn the Diets

Getting settled into December, I cannot believe it's December. It's crazy. All of the holiday shopping is happening. Black Friday, Cyber Monday was epic. And now I'm sure you're still scrambling to get some more gifts for people because that's just how December goes. I feel like December is basically holiday shopping, drinking hot cocoa, and watching 25 days

1:32.4

of Christmas on repeat. If you are not sure what to get the people in your life, definitely

1:38.2

check out the holiday gift guides on my website. And one gift that I think is absolutely amazing to get your loved ones this year

1:46.6

is one of the Ned Holiday Sets. One of the most common questions I get asked is if I use CBD

1:53.0

and if I do, what brand do I use? And I always recommend Ned's full spectrum hemp oil. You've got to be

2:00.0

really careful with CBD products out there on the market because a lot of them don't even contain the amount of CBD that they claim to contain, if any at all. There have been studies on this. It's pretty shocking. And a lot of companies will use isolates. So an isolate is a lab isolated CBD compound that's in a white powder form and it's

2:17.9

stripped of all of the other phytocannabinoids that help to complement that cannabodial and really

2:22.8

give it that full entourage effect. And that's why I love Ned's full spectrum hemp oil because you

2:27.3

are getting the full spectrum of phytocannabinoids. In addition to the CBD, you are also getting the CBG, CBC, CBDA, CBGA,

2:38.1

and those lovely smelling hemp terpenes. All NED products are made from organic whole natural ingredients.
