For the second week running, the Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rainer stood in for Sekeir Starma

at PMQs. Last week, the Prime Minister was returning from the G7 summit. Today, he was at the NATO summit in the Hague.

As MPs gathered in the Commons, there was growing speculation at Westminster

that the government was preparing to drop or delay its plans to change the welfare system

after more than 120 Labour MPs signed an amendment designed to block the Universal Credit

and Personal Independence Payment Bill. Ministers want to cut the benefits bill by £5 billion by

2030 and are proposing to restrict who is able to claim disability benefits. Standing in for the Conservative leader, Kemi Bajdnock,

the Shadow Chancellor, Samel Stride,

said it was a pleasure to face Angela Rainer across the dispatch box.
