slash the katy helper show on today's episode I speak to chase a Boudine, a deputy public defender who is running for the DA's office in San Francisco.

Chase is the latest example of a public defender running for DA on a progressive and decarceral platform.

Chase of Boudine's parents, Kathy Boudin and David Gilbert,

were members of the Weather Underground

and were incarcerated when their son Chasa was just 14 months old

for driving the getaway car in a robbery that tragically took the lives of three men.

After law school, Chasa worked for two federal judges handling criminal trials and appeals.

He then became a deputy public defender.

I interviewed Chasa during a fundraiser for his campaign, which

his family friend threw for him at his house on the Upper West Side. So before you hear the

interview, you'll hear

Chasa addressing the crowd and giving a spiel about why he's

running. You'll also hear some cute interruptions from Arlo, the four-year-old

daughter of the hosts who threw the fundraising party.

Also a very important update, only 18 days before the first open seat election for

San Francisco DA's office in 110 years, the current DA, George Gascond, suddenly resigned to pursue a run for the same job in

Los Angeles.

And a move announced by the ACLU, Mayor London Breed, took the opportunity to appoint

Susie Loftus, her preferred candidate in the race,

interim DA. The move sparked protests in the community and was seen as an unethical way for the mayor
