there's a great connection between law and real estate and they both need the other. I have like three or four guys come into my office and they go, hey, we want to start a corporation and we want you to be our attorney. And I'm like, who is we? I mean, who, where do you see me in this role? Because I can put the paperwork together. I can represent the corporation. And if I do that, that means I give none of you guys advice. Or I can represent one of you.

And I can tell that one of you, hey, this is what you need to do to make sure you're protected,

that you're looked after.

But typically attorneys are going to be kind of careful about who they represent.

I mean, to me, that's one of the fundamental principles of being an attorney is,

is I have a client and I protect that client.

This is a conversation with my friend Scott Toussaint.

He has the unique position of being both an attorney who specializes

in business and real estate investing. He's also a professor, adjunct professor of law at Clemson

University. Actually, met him there. I go and speak to his real estate law class here and there

and talk to college students about real estate investing and try to inspire them to do some of the

stuff we talk about here on the podcast. But Scott is also a real estate investor. And so in this conversation, we kind of talk about

both of those realms and where they cross over. If you think about real estate investing,

it is one piece, the sticks and bricks, the physical construction part of the building.

It's one piece financing and the money. But it's also the legal side of it, the contracts, the deeds. And there's a lot of stuff that's kind of hard to understand if you're brand new to real estate investing or even if you've been it for a while, it can be intimidating about the legal side.
