It's News Day Tuesday! Emma speaks with Daniel Nichanian, editor-in-chief of Bolts Magazine, to discuss the state of play of the 2024 election and what key races to watch out for in November. First, Emma runs through updates on the wake of Hurricane Helene and the progression of Hurricane Milton, US federal and state-level disaster response, DeSantis’ fascism, Harris' medicare plan, election polls, Trump’s struggling campaign messaging, Israel’s ongoing slaughter in Gaza, Elon Musk’s SuperPAC bribe, Biden’s EPA policy, and Georgia’s abortion ban, before further unpacking the extreme conditions of Hurricane Milton and the absurdly weak disaster preparedness of DeSantis’ Florida. Daniel Nichanian then joins, diving right into the state election polling one month out of the election, Trump’s struggle to persuade voters outside of his strongholds, and Harris’ performance in swing states. Stepping back, Nichanian and Emma unpack the incredible precarity of the New York Democratic Party in the wake of their center-right pivot over the last few election cycles, what their poor favorability in the state means for Harris and Congress, before looking to the major Senate races to look for, namely Colin Allred’s challenge to Ted Cruz and Tester’s fight to retain his seat, also diving into Independent Dan Osborn’s race out of Nebraska. After briefly unpacking the major state-level abortion referendums on the ballot in November (and their potential impact up- and down-ballot), Daniel highlights some other big referendums – including redistricting, minimum wage, and transit and affordable housing funding – and wraps up by exploring the major fights going on for state-level control in Arizona and North Carolina.
And in the Fun Half: Emma and the MR Team unpack a GOP congressional candidate’s attempt to frame his friend’s family as his own and the disaster of various state democratic parties, Josef from Israel explores the idea of one democratic state in Palestine, and Trump sites his sights on the gilded age for his economic inspiration. Laura Ingraham helps Trump work through the trauma of returning to Butler, Creflo Dollar parses through the New Jersey ballot, and Tucker and Elon muse about how dangerous and anti-establishment they really are. Jeff from Iowa discusses the mood of the midwest electorate one month out from the election, plus, your calls and IMs!
