Summary

Every mother and daughter have their own unique story. The desire to have a healthy connection is universal but the reality of that kind of relationship is often different. For mothers and daughters that have a history of messiness it can sometimes feel difficult to navigate the muddy waters, if not impossible all together. But what if there were practical steps and a story that could infuse hope into the possibility of restoration?

In this episode Justin and Abi are joined by Melanie and her daughter Amanda. The two open up about their strained relationship that grew from Melanie’s lifestyle of fear and her need to control. Amanda shares about her process of slowly and silently shutting down to the point of having no connection at all. Together they discuss how Melanie’s personal healing journey, and the process of writing a book together, bloomed into a deep connection and an understanding of each other.

If you’re wanting to hear a heartwarming story of hope and restoration that reminds you of the goodness and possibilities in this world, this episode is a MUST!

1:01.5

I am so just so you all know that we already started a recording once. We were too out of control. So this is the one. And I am surprised that he's like, let's start the second one with your doctors.

1:13.5

I know. I think what you're talking about. There was a couple of things that delighted me. The doctor was looking at my jeans. And he goes, oh, you have a gene from your mom and your dad that means you have no short term memory.

1:29.5

And he started laughing. And he's like, you're the type of person that gets lost in a parking lot. You're the type of person that like care. Remember where you put your keys. Yes.

1:40.5

So I just felt like super validated. Like you think that I just don't care. It's in my jeans. What's interesting is she feels validated. I was gonna ask. But you probably felt very well.

1:51.5

I think you're very valid. I think there's a real problem here. Doctor certified. Just also a bunch of marital problems. It really did. I think it really did.

2:02.5

He also said this, which I thought was interesting. He said that I have double worry jeans is what he calls them, which means that my body takes longer to regulate after a negative situation happens than most people.

2:17.5

So it like what could like some people could like come out of a situation and maybe like somebody gets scared because somebody jumps on goes, boo, boo, boo, boo.

2:26.5

This is a real story from the real. I can't handle it. If he jumps out and scares me for the next hour, my adrenaline is still coming down.

2:36.5

Right. It's like too much. I tell him you're gonna kill me crazy delay and do not scream. Love a screen. But it's like this crazy delay. And she stares at you and then start screaming.

2:44.5

Eradically. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. The body's like, wait. Okay. Yes. And go and never stop. Yeah. It looks really cool. We got a lot of answers. And we've those of you have been listening.

2:56.5

Even if you've been listening last couple of weeks. Listen, I don't want to say we have a lot of answers. I had a doctor's appointment today. We had some answers.

3:04.5

I don't like to us every time I see a doctor. All of my friends are like, oh, yeah, this damn show. This is it. This isn't a thing. And I don't like that.

3:12.5

Well, you took that a whole different direction that I was going to say. I was going to say, hey, it's really cool. We got some insights recently.

3:18.5

Oh, great, great, great. Talk about triggered. Yeah. No, that's that's a real life trigger for our whole audience to hear.
