that await us all out there and the rest of the world.

So today on Travel with Rick Steeves, we're talking to people just like you who have a travel story to tell.

You know, to me, every day is magical in Africa. Tom Simpson's a physician in San Francisco.

He joins us in a bit to tell us about his road trip across Africa

to attend last year's World Cup. Let's just say it might be helpful to be a doctor on these

roads. I looked at everybody there like you know in amazement and said this man is alive we need to help

him we'll also talk to listeners who share their tales of transformative travels including

one who's decided to dance with the locals,

joining in the annual ball season in Vienna.

Some interesting ones are the candy makers,

the bonbon ball, and the chimney sweeps have a ball.

Today on Travel with Rick Steeves, we start the New Year out in class with an American who got all dressed up and danced the night away at the elegant New Year's waltzes and formal balls in Vienna.

Then, after a few more listeners travel tales, we'll finish with an American who drove the entire length of Africa to get to last year's World Cup.

His description of the harsh realities of the African Road are something you'll never forget.

All my life I've enjoyed traveling to Vienna, but I've looked in from a distance at the

videos and the ballroom floors and all the magic of the Viennese ball season.
