But first of all, you may have noticed a couple of issues ago,

we had a special report about the crimes of Gordon Anglesey,

who was a senior police officer who's very recently being convicted of the sexual abuse of vulnerable young men in his care.

It was a historic case and it's one that the eye had a special interest in because he sued us for libel in the 1990s and he won at the time.

Ian Hislop, the editor of Private Eye, joins me now.

Ian, is that a fair assessment of the situation?

Yes, that is right and it was a very grim case and we lost along with a number of other media

organizations and the damages were huge and the

costs were even bigger, but that wasn't the worst cost.

I mean, the worst cost was that a young man who'd given evidence for us

took his own life.

So it couldn't have been a sort of less amusing or less sort of

entertaining case for private eye to take and we lost it was a very long time ago but
