Summary

A new alliteration means a new Teaching to the TOP series! Welcome to the Couch Chronicles where we give you actionable steps you can make to be productive right from the comfort of your own couch.  In the first of this series we want to tackle the overwhelm of the end of the school year. This is one of the busiest times of the year. You’ve got state testing, assessments, portfolios, conferences, field tips… the list goes on and on. But wouldn’t it be nice (cue the song from 50 first dates) to get a little ahead so that each day didn’t feel like you were drowning in to-dos? Well, this episode is going to share how to make that happen! In this episode we share the following ways you can prepare for the end of the year: 1. Create your end of the year checklist 2. Clean out your Google Drive 3. Clean out your email 4. Clean out your LMS 5. Well, hello there, top teachers. We are your host, Bridget Spackman and Michelle Emerson, and we are here to make your life easier by helping you master your time, organization, and productivity as a teacher.

0:12.0

So we've got a new series thanks to Michelle's incredible talent for alliteration. In this series, we are sharing simple, proactive steps that you can take from your couch to help

0:23.3

manage your to-does and your stress.

0:26.1

But first, we're going to hear a time-sucking hurdle from Madison.

0:29.9

Madison says, hi, ladies, longtime follower of your podcast.

0:33.9

I have learned so much from your episodes and put so many things into my practice

0:38.8

in my classroom and life in general too. My favorite episode was the one where you discuss the

0:44.2

plastic and glass balls. My TSA is parent-teacher interviews. At my school, we run them over two

0:51.4

nights, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. after teaching all day. I am mentally drained as well.

0:56.8

We are only given 10 minutes to discuss with the parents any academic and behavioral issues,

1:02.4

celebrations, positives, friendships, and then questions. Do you have any tips or tricks to keep on time

1:08.9

and on track for the parent-teacher interviews. Thank you.

1:13.1

So I'm assuming that you are not in North America because of the way that we spelled practice

favorite and behavioral, which I absolutely love. So Madison, yes, we do have some tips. And I think

1:25.6

this is a really great episode for it because the tips that

1:28.4

I'm going to give you are from your couch. So you can literally do them ahead of time to be proactive

1:33.4

so that you're not feeling stressed during that day. So the biggest one that I would give you

1:37.4

is to come up with some form of a template where you can go ahead and write down all of the celebrations,

1:46.1

the issues, the friendships, and then maybe even have an area where parents can write

1:51.2

questions that they can send to you in advance. So here's how this would work. You would create

1:57.1

your form and then you would fill it in with all of the information that you are

2:01.2

planning to share with families. And then you would send that to them and they could return it back
