Hi there, welcome to the Barry Boys. This is Greg Young.

And this is Tom Myers.

Now, maybe it's the weather, the anticipation of the summer with all the big Hollywood action films about to come out.

But we wanted to present an action blockbuster ourselves, a tale of skull duggery, betrayal, and Barry treasure.

This is the story of Captain Kid, the pirate of Old New York.

The true story, Greg. We need to emphasize that throughout this whole show, because I think the most people,

when they hear the title, Captain Kid, the pirate of Old New York, think that we're spinning some kind of fanciful yarn.

But indeed, there was a time in New York's history when Lower Manhattan was just bristling, filled with pirates.

It was a nest of pirates.

Pirates in every bar, every saloon.

I mean, you could hardly walk down the cobblestone streets without tripping on somebody's peg leg.

Now, Tom, when I was a kid, a kid.

When I was a kid, I guess I imagined Captain William Kid, the subject of our story today,

to be this classic fictional pirate, you know, with a parrot on his shoulder and an eye patch and maybe even a hook hand.

I don't think he had a hook. Well, the story has a hook.

Lots of hooks, I think.
