Growing up, David wanted to play BASKETBALL. It was his vision, his calling and all he wanted… to play in the NBA. When he finally made it (at 6’2 BTW when most NBA players are 6’7”) it became his identity. He had MADE IT.
But when he was cut, he was lost and depressed. He had NO CLUE what else to do with himself.
