In this segment, Joe talks about the events that lead up to his firefight with the Taliban,

and when he got shot.

So the Afghans, instead of waiting for their helicopter, they run to the next nearest

helicopter, which was the one we were supposed to take.

So they run out, get on the helicopter, we run out there, we're getting shot at, you

know, small arms to include belt, that machine gunfire, and they're not getting off.

I don't necessarily blame them, because I wouldn't want to go back into that helicopter.

So we're like, just go, you know, we don't want to get shot in this open field here.

You know, we want to have a fighter's chance here.

So they lift off three helicopters, lift off, and then it's just us, past team members,

and I believe two Australians left.

So we take cover in the ditch, and of course, all the gunfire is focused on us at this

point.

Hey, speaking of that, what was the booze situation during your tour?

Well, you know, the US military is one of the only, they can't have really any alcohol

drinks.

A lot of these other partner forces, you know, they can have so many beers a month or

this and that.

So we would kind of maybe, I can confirm nor deny this, bring over some booze in some

of our containers when we go over there.
