Regardless of what you think of Biden and even regardless of what you think of Zelensky

as an individual, this is a cause that is important to support.

Any attack upon a nation's sovereignty is something that needs to be repelled and therefore

we're going to make a distinction between the principle of national self-determination

and the way in which that principle is sometimes exploited by certain sections of the Western world.

So Frank, let's talk about Ukraine. That's what really wire want you on.

It's now one year since Russia launched its invasion.

I think it's around six months since you wrote your book about the war, your quickfire responsive

book, which was called The Road to Ukraine, How the West Lost Its Way.

So a lot has obviously happened over the past year, and I just want to start off by

getting you to take the temperature of where things are at right now.

Has the war gone in the kind of direction you expected it to? Has the Western response

mapped out in the way that you expected it would, or have you been surprised by some developments?

How do you see things standing right now in the Russia-Ukraine conflict?

Well, in the book I made a point that this is a war that's not going to end anytime soon,

and I said that this is a never-ending war that's going to be like a typical frontier war that

will continue for a long, long, long time. For the very simple reason, that nitrous side can

afford to lose, but that nitrous side can really win. And I think that dynamic is still very much
