Paralympic Madelist, Veteran, Purple Heart Recipient, Triathlete, and Team Toyota Athlete.

I interviewed her years ago for ESPNW. It was so great to catch back up with her and talk about

where she's come since eight or nine years ago and what she's working towards now with the Paralympics

ahead. Melissa lost her leg to a roadside bomb in Iraq. She was actually the first female American

soldier to lose a limb in the Iraq war. We talked about how she celebrates little legs,

birthday, or her alive day, and chooses to celebrate what she has instead of what she lost.
