Today, my guest Melody tells us how she navigated her army career and about the events that ultimately led her to become a mole.

Thank you Ben, glad to be here.

Your story takes us to Afghanistan when you were in the army, right?

Yes it does.

And what year was that?

2009.

Okay, so it's been 13 years or so?

Yes, I was 17 years old.

My dad told me around the age 14 or 15 that, you know, the only way I was going to get to college was either by joining the military or working through college.

And I just, no one else in my family had ever been to college.

I couldn't imagine that for myself, so I enlisted very young.

You mentioned in your secret to me that there were some requirements you had to meet just in terms of your weight, relative to your height and so forth.

I found that kind of interesting.

What was it exactly?

Yes, so it's 17 years old joining the military.

I actually, I weighed, I think it was like 140 and they asked me to lose 5 pounds.
