Summary

David Amoyal of The Calcioland Podcast returns to the show to take a look at the 2021-2022 Serie A season. We discuss Italy's win this summer at the Euros and which players impressed the most, before moving on to discuss the strange reality of 5 of the league's top 7 teams having new managers in charge. Then we get into some team-specific talk:

1) Inter Milan - Is the situation at the club as bad as it seems, and what are the immediate challenges for new manager Simone Inzaghi?

2) Roma - Has Jose Mourinho been hired to rebuild the club or with an eye towards his past glories?

3) Lazio - What will the team shape be under Maurizio Sarri, and which player will need to adapt his game the most?

4) Napoli - The underdog/dark horse/least heralded club that has a chance to win it all. Plus, why Luciano Spalletti deserves more love!

5) Fiorentina - Why was Gattuso in charge for only a month, and is the hype around his replacement justified? Short answer: yes!

6) Juventus - A familiar face is back in charge: what will Allegri's return mean for established veterans, newbies and youngsters alike?

7) Atalanta - Spending money on proven defenders is never a bad idea, but will it be enough?

8) Milan - How much pressure is on Stefano Pioli, how much roster construction remains, and what are the odds Conte takes over at some point?

9) Venezia - Will they stay up and how will they go about doing so?

My name is Taylor Rockwell, joining me today to preview the upcoming SETIA season,

David, thank you so much for being here.

0:34.4

It's a real pleasure, Taylor, to be back on your show.

1:15.6

We've done a few of these, and I'm humbled to still be part of it. So great to talk to you. And good afternoon. Bonapombo-merijo, bono, matina, bonacera, depending on when you're hearing this, all the listeners. Your sounded slightly more authentic, if I'm being honest. I appreciate your willingness to be here. I appreciate your willingness to be peppered with a bunch of questions. We have Manuel Vaitz, who does this for our sort of Blendous League of coverage, where I can ask him basically anything about any topic. And he seems to have an answer for people who are new to the show. David is very much the same when it comes to SediIA. I have many questions because it feels like it's been a weird summer and will be a weird start to the season.

1:18.0

But first, we haven't spoken since Italy won the Euros.

1:19.9

How was your summer with that in mind?

1:30.8

Superb. I have to say, you know, Taylor, the Euro reminded me as to why, you know, I fell in love with this sport.

1:38.0

I think, you know, especially the past year or two, you know, covering a lot of transfers and, you know,

1:47.6

agent commissions, profits, players leaving maybe under not the best of circumstances may be pretty cynical.

1:52.5

And I have to say watching Italy's run and the Euro kind of reminded me why. I love the sport so much.

1:54.4

And I've been following Italy in tournaments since the late 80s.

1:59.3

You know, I can't remember a time where so many people actually

2:02.7

liked Italy. I felt like they were everyone's kind of second favorite team. You know, they were

2:09.1

rated highly going into the tournament. I thought they played really well. I thought they

2:14.5

absolutely deserved to win. So, yeah, no, it was definitely great.

2:19.7

You know, it was also a period where

2:21.4

things were looking, you know,

2:23.3

pretty safe. I got to go out and
