Summary

Hello and welcome to episode 202 of The Mindful Kind podcast.

In this episode, you'll hear about my own experiences with learning how to appreciate the little things in life. Before practising mindfulness, I often felt caught up in my thoughts and distracted from the present moment. Over time, mindfulness has taught me so much about noticing and appreciating little moments.

Here are 5 simple ways you can appreciate some small, yet meaningful, moments in your everyday life.

1: Notice the warmth of the water when you take a shower

2: Play your favourite song and listen to it like you're hearing it for the last time and you want to remember everything about it

3: Tune in to your sense of smell when you're drinking a hot drink

4: Spend time consciously appreciating nature

5: Find your own favourite mindful moments in your everyday life

Thank you so much for listening and I hope you have a wonderful week, Mindful Kind.

I've really found that since I started practicing mindfulness, I've been more open to noticing the little things in life that are actually quite beautiful and special. I can appreciate something

subtle like the feeling of warm sunshine on my skin or a new leaf growing on one of my plants or

the comfort of my bed when I wake up in the morning. Before I started practicing mindfulness,

all those things were there but I was less inclined to notice them because I was often caught up in my own thoughts, often negative thoughts about the future or the past or about myself.

By being more mindful, I feel like I've slowly trained myself to be present and open-minded so much more.

And in doing that, I've learned to let go of a lot of unnecessary

thoughts and distractions. And so I have more capacity to enjoy the little things in life and to

really appreciate them. In this episode, I thought I'd share a few simple mindfulness practices

you can use to cultivate more gratitude for the little things in

life. And I hope you enjoy trying these out for yourself. I know these practices might seem small

and almost insignificant, but trust me when I say that the more you intentionally do practices

like these, the more open you will be to the beauty in life.

Practice one is to notice the warmth of the water when you take a shower. It's amazing how many

simple pleasures we can experience in everyday life, yet so many of them go unnoticed. I used to

spend my time in the shower planning out the day ahead and mentally
