It's TV news briefly for Sunday 20th of October. Everything EV in less than five minutes if you haven't got time for the full podcast today. Let's talk first of all a little bit about an investigation that's being opened up into Tesla's full self-driving system. This is by the safety agency in the US, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, looking into four cases where FSD was being used in low visibility conditions.

This is different at the autopilot investigations they've done in the past.

This is specifically FSD, the beta or supervised various versions of that in pretty much

every Tesla that has the hardware to run it.

So a couple of million vehicles or more being investigated, specifically, including a

case, unfortunately, where there was one fatality, where a Model Y was using FSD supervised,

this is looking at scenarios where cameras don't do a good enough job. So when the sun glare,

when there's fog, where there's dust in the air,

looking at the results of what you would maybe call an edge case, what professors in this field

call non-typical driving scenarios. And so there's no point looking at interventions, they say,

in good weather conditions, look at the interventions that happen when the weather conditions are poor.

So that's what they're looking into here.

And meanwhile, in China, it looks like what we were promised on the earnings call in July,

when Elon Musk said that FSD would be rolling out in China and Europe by the end of the year.

Won't be happening now.

They were hoping for early 2025.

That won't be happening now. They were hoping for early 225. That won't be happening

now either with the Chinese authorities. A major challenge is how to implement that with all the

collection and management of all the data in China where the local authorities will want access

to sensitive video data of how the system gets trained.

And I think they'll be working up for a long time with the Chinese laws that require foreign firms

to work with authorized local partners for collection, storage, transmission and processing of anything possibly sensitive.
