When I was in college, we learned about recidivism in my sociology class.

It is defined as a tendency to relapse into a previous condition or mode of behavior,

especially relapse into criminal behavior.

We see on the news time and time again about horrible crimes that are committed by people who more

often than not have committed similar crimes before. Now this isn't always the case necessarily.

Friendly John Doe next door, you know the guy who mows his lawn twice a week and always

brings up your trash cans for you, well he can turn out to be your worst nightmare, a wolf in sheep's

clothing, if you will.

But sometimes these stories that we hear about get you thinking.

At least for me, it gets me curious about those people who have already done horrible things

and somehow managed to taste freedom again, when it's very clear that they shouldn't.

The scales of justice aren't always balanced.

Maybe the question I'm trying to get at is, are second chance is really a good idea?

Perhaps they can be, in certain situations, but in some instances, second chance is really a good idea? Perhaps they can be, in certain situations,

but in some instances, second chances are a terrible idea,

and they come with a cost.
